Northern mountain province aims to boost economy with $14 billion road and bridge projects

A series of transport and infrastructure projects worth over 14,000 billion dong have been identified by Thai Nguyen as key projects that will drive the economy forward.

The year 2023 is the first year that Thai Nguyen province has been entrusted with balancing the local budget while regulating 4% of the revenue-sharing according to the regulations on the national budget. Meanwhile, the year 2024 is of significant importance in laying the foundation for the implementation of the socio-economic development goals of the 2021 – 2025 5-year plan.

According to the Planning of Thai Nguyen province in the 2021 – 2030 period, with the vision until 2050 being approved by the Prime Minister, by 2025, Thai Nguyen province will become one of the modern and smart industrial and economic centers of the North Central and Northern mountainous area and the capital region of Hanoi.

By 2030, Thai Nguyen province will become one of the centers for high-level production of electrical, electronic, and mechanical industries; high-quality human resource education and training centers, research, and application of high technology in production; medical and healthcare centers; tourist centers; and digital transformation centers of the North Central and Northern mountainous area.

Looking toward 2050, the province strives to meet the standards to become a centrally-run, green, smart city with a clear identity; one of the modern industrial centers of the capital region of Hanoi and the whole country. In the development journey, the province also clearly identifies key infrastructure and transportation works as the driving force for the economy.

Connecting and linking Thai Nguyen, Bac Giang, and Vinh Phuc provinces

The project in Pho Yen City was started in May 2022, with a construction progress of 30 months and a total investment of over 4,200 billion VND. The total length of the entire route is 42.55km, including the main line of 36.51km and the branch line of 6.04km.

Currently, the progress of the implementation of construction work, land excavation, and road construction is over 40.15/42.55km. Machines and materials are being collected for the construction of asphalt roads. Construction work on 11/11 bridges, 25/28 underground tunnels, 168/191 cross drains, and 4/4 barrier positions is underway. The completion value reaches 37% of the contract value.

From the key transportation axis of the connecting and linking route of Thai Nguyen, Bac Giang, and Vinh Phuc provinces, a new space has been opened up to attract investment and develop the economy of the province, becoming a driving force for development in the region. Surrounding this axis is the 1,128ha TDT – urban – service complex project in Pho Yen City. Currently, the provincial management board of industrial zones is completing the participation opinions of ministries and submitting them to the provincial Department of Construction and the provincial People’s Committee for approval according to regulations.

Beltway 5

The Beltway 5 project passing through Thai Nguyen province with a total investment of nearly 700 billion VND; a total length of 6.68km is determined by the province as a key transportation project. When completed by the end of 2024, it will form an east-west axis connecting Thai Nguyen with Bac Giang, opening up new development space, attracting industrial zones, and urban areas along the road.

Currently, along the road, an urban – service industrial zone in Phu Binh district is being planned. This industrial zone has been approved by the Thai Nguyen provincial People’s Committee for the general planning and is promoting the attraction of interested investors for construction.

Along Beltway 5, the section from Phu Binh district to Bac Giang province currently has 2 industrial zones established according to the planning, including Luong Phu – Tan Duc Industrial Zone with an area of 73.95ha and Tan Duc Industrial Zone with a scale of 73.98ha.

Ho Nui Coc Road

The Ho Nui Coc Road project is 38.8km long, including 3 routes passing through Phuc Xuan and Phuc Triu communes (Thai Nguyen city), Phuc Tan commune (Pho Yen city), and Dai Tu district. The total investment capital of the project is nearly 5,300 billion VND. Investing in the road will create favorable conditions to attract investment in the region’s strengths, such as tourism and services. It will contribute to turning the Ho Nui Coc National Tourist Area into one of the high-quality eco-tourism and resort centers.

3 golf course projects over 270ha

Currently, the province is also planning and implementing the construction of 3 golf course projects over 270ha as driving forces for development. Specifically, the Tan Thai golf course in Dai Tu district has an area of 84ha with a total investment capital of 586 billion VND.

The second golf course project, the Glory 18-hole golf course in Pho Yen City, has been approved for investment in 2023. The total investment capital is over 387 billion VND, with a scale of 54ha. These two golf courses are expected to be put into operation in the second quarter of 2025.

The Tan Chu golf course project is part of the provincial golf course planning for the 2021 – 2030 period and the vision until 2050, with a scale of 135ha. Currently, the project is being proposed for investment approval.

Thai Nguyen Provincial Stadium

The Thai Nguyen Provincial Stadium, with a design scale of an international football stadium with over 22,000 seats, is gradually taking shape. The total investment capital of the project is about 536 billion VND, covering an area of 15ha. This is also a key project of the province in this term. The stadium is expected to be put into operation in the first quarter of 2025.

Other key projects

The new urban area and pedestrian street in the center of Thai Nguyen city are being built on an area of 6.65ha, including main items such as housing, commercial townhouses, pedestrian streets, green spaces, underground spaces, etc. When completed, it will create a public cultural and artistic space, connecting the Võ Nguyên Giáp Square and the Cau River…

The Quang Vinh 1 and 2 bridges contribute to the comprehensive system of urban infrastructure of the central region of the city, thereby boosting economic development and creating a modern architectural landscape. The total investment capital is over 1,528 billion VND. Currently, the investor has completed the procedures and submitted the project for approval.

The Hanoi – Thai Nguyen railway overpass project, the Quang Trung – Viet Bac intersection, with a total investment of over 158 billion VND and a length of over 620m. The Phu Thuong Bridge project worth 466 billion VND has been completed and put into use. The construction project of the 12-story high-rise working headquarters of provincial agencies, with a total investment of nearly 405 billion VND….
