Metro Line 1 Project (Ben Thanh – Suoi Tien)

The Ben Thanh – Suoi Tien Metro Project has a total investment of over 43,700 billion VND, with a length of nearly 20km from Ben Thanh, District 1 to Depot Long Binh, Thu Duc City. The project has completed over 97% of the total volume and has conducted continuous test runs of 17 trains during the Lunar New Year. There are 3 test trains running on the entire route every day, both on elevated and underground sections from Long Binh Depot (Thu Duc City) to Ben Thanh Station (District 1) and vice versa. Along with the test runs, the contractors will check all related functions such as signal systems, station gates, telecommunications, control centers, and overhead power supply.

According to a report from the Urban Railway Management Board of Ho Chi Minh City (MAUR) sent to the Office of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee, Metro Line 1 is expected to start commercial operations in July 2024. However, with the latest plan, Metro Line 1 will delay its commercial operation until the end of 2024.

Specifically, by the fourth quarter of 2024, the Metro Line 1 project will complete the fire prevention and fighting tests; obtain certificates and safety assessments for the remaining stations. After that, the State Inspection Council for Construction Work will conduct inspections and tests for the remaining items. Only then will the project proceed to operate the entire line for commercial purposes.

Metro Line 2 Project (Ben Thanh – Tham Luong)

The project has handed over about 87% of the cleared land, and the remaining land has had the adjusted compensation unit price approved and is expected to be fully paid by mid-2024. In 2024, the relocation of electrical, water, and telecommunications utilities will be carried out simultaneously at 12 locations along the electric train line, including 10 stations and 2 open-cut sections to provide the standard land for the main bidding packages to be implemented in 2025. On February 19, the underground 110kV electrical and water system in Tao Dan Park (where Tao Dan Underground Station will be built) was the first point to be relocated simultaneously.

The construction period of the project mainly takes place at night, and BIM (Building Information Modeling) is used to detect clashes between various items and plan appropriate construction methods. The city requires the investor to coordinate the construction plan for each location to shorten the time, avoid multiple excavations, and arrange suitable segmented construction to avoid congestion.

The Beltway 3 City Component 2 Project

The project is being accelerated for compensation work, with over 97% of the cleared land handed over. It is expected that the compensation and site clearance work will be completed in the early months of 2024 for handover to the investor.

The Beltway 3 City Component 1 Project

The project is divided into 14 construction bidding packages, including 10 main construction packages and 4 supporting packages for operation and maintenance. The project still faces difficulties and obstacles, especially in the demand for sand material for foundation filling, approximately 9.2 million cubic meters, which is at risk of shortage, and the full source of supply has not yet been determined. The city continues to coordinate with relevant localities to request support because this material source largely determines the preparation of construction sites.

The An Phu Intersection Project

All project items are being aggressively constructed by relevant units to ensure the project progress. The selected bidding packages have contractors committed to accelerate the progress in 2024 to meet the set plan.

Nguyen Van Linh – Nguyen Huu Tho Underpass

The construction progress of the project only reaches 43% due to complications in relocating technical infrastructure systems (electricity, water, telecommunications, etc.). To speed up the construction progress, the entire road at the intersection will be barricaded 24/7 starting from February 8, 2024. It is expected to complete the opening of the HC2 branch tunnel before June 30, 2024, and the opening of the HC1 branch tunnel before December 31, 2024.

The Improvement of Tham Luong – Ben Cat Canal – Nước Len Canal

The project has a total route length of 31.46 km, passing through 7 districts and towns. All bidding packages have started construction, and the units have accelerated the progress and ensured the schedule. The project is expected to be completed on April 30, 2025.
