The longest cable-stayed bridge on the North-South expressway costs over 1.3 trillion VND.

The 4.1km Hung Duc Bridge, with a total investment of over 1,300 billion VND, connects the provinces of Nghe An and Ha Tinh. It is the longest river crossing bridge on the North-South highway route.

On the morning of March 16th, in Hung Nguyen district, Nghe An province, a consortium of investors and Phuc Thanh Hung Investment Joint Stock Company organized the opening ceremony of Hung Duc Bridge, the longest river bypass bridge on the North-South highway, part of the Dien Chau – Bai Vot project.

Hung Duc Bridge is 4.1 km long, crossing the Lam River, connecting Hung Nguyen district, Nghe An province with Duc Tho district, Ha Tinh province.

The Dien Chau – Bai Vot section of the East North-South highway project consists of 31 road bridges; among them, Hung Duc Bridge, which crosses the Lam River, is the longest river bypass bridge on the North-South highway.

Hung Duc Bridge was commenced in May 2022 by a consortium of contractors consisting of Hoa Hiep Co., Ltd., Cienco4 Group Joint Stock Company, Thai Yen Investment and Construction Joint Stock Company, Dai Hiep Co., Ltd., and 456 Joint Stock Company.

The bridge is designed in phases with a scale of 2 motor lanes, a bridge width of 17.5m, a bridge length of 90 spans, including 76 super T spans and 14 cast-in-place spans (with 3 large cast-in-place spans crossing the Lam River with a span of 120m). The total length of the bridge is 4,015m, with a construction cost of about VND 1,317 billion, making it the longest river bypass bridge on the North-South highway.

Hung Duc Bridge is one of the technically complex construction items and is a “challenging section” of the project. During the construction process, the contractors encountered many difficulties due to storms (the temporary bridge was washed away twice by floods), inflation, and the completion of procedures for executing the construction within the dike…

After more than 30 months of construction, with experienced contractors together with determined determination, full efforts, mobilizing good human resources, materials, machinery, and equipment, and organizing continuous construction in 3 shifts, 4 teams, including holidays and Tet. Up to now, Hung Duc Bridge has been constructed and completed more than 95% of the volume, surpassing the planned schedule.

The bridge surface is designed to be 17.5m wide, with 4 running lanes and a hard separator.

The Dien Chau – Bai Vot highway project has a total length of over 49km, passing through two provinces, Nghe An (44.4km) and Ha Tinh (4.9km). The project started in May 2021, with the expected completion and opening by the end of April 2024. The total investment capital of the project is over VND 11,157 billion. This is one of the three component projects invested under the public-private partnership (PPP) form on the East North-South highway route in the 2017-2020 period.
