Over 2,000 billion VND invested in upgrading the bottleneck on the North-South railway

On the morning of March 22nd, the inauguration ceremony for the construction project of the Đèo Khe Nét railway section, part of the North-South railway in Quang Binh province, took place.

This is

the first railway project in Vietnam funded by ODA from the Korean Economic Development Cooperation Fund (EDCF) and the counterpart capital from the Vietnamese Government with a value of over 2,000 billion VND.

The project to renovate the Khe Nét Pass railway section on the Hanoi – Ho Chi Minh City railway includes 2 packages: Package XL01 for the construction of 2 railway tunnels, a total length of 935m, implementation period of 23 months by the consortium of Ilsung company and Deo Ca group.

Specifically, tunnel 1 is 620m long, tunnel 2 is 393m long, tunnel width is 10m, designed according to the grade I railway tunnel standard. It is known that the consortium of IlSung – Deo Ca overcame the other 2 consortia to win this package.

The project will renovate 2 railway tunnels with a total length of nearly 1,000m.

Package XL02 for the construction of bridges, railways, signal information, and other remaining works, implemented by the consortium of Ilsung company and Railway Construction Corporation (RCC), construction period of 22 months.

After the commencement ceremony, the contractor will mobilize a large number of personnel and equipment to officially start construction.

The railway will remove the bottleneck section through the Khe Nét Pass (Quang Binh) after renovation.

The Khe Nét Pass project is identified as a “bottleneck” in the North-South railway line. After completion, it will improve the railway infrastructure, increase speed, reduce travel time on the Hanoi – Ho Chi Minh City railway line in the coming years, ensure smooth and safe railway transportation, enhance capacity and quality of transportation services.
