The project for the road connecting Thanh Hoa City and Tho Xuan Airport has a total length of 34.7 km, starting at the Nhoi Junction in Thanh Hoa City and ending in Xuan Thang commune, Tho Xuan district.
According to the decision approved by the Chairman of the People’s Committee of Thanh Hoa province, the project was to be completed within 5 years (2019-2023), helping to shorten the distance and travel time between Thanh Hoa City and Tho Xuan Airport, and forming an urban landscape axis for the westward expansion of Thanh Hoa City.
This road is also a connector to the North-South Expressway, contributing to the completion of the region’s transportation infrastructure. The project is invested by the Thanh Hoa Department of Transportation and then authorized to the Management Board of Transport Projects of Thanh Hoa province for implementation.
The project is divided into three sub-projects: Sub-project 1, which was started in May 2019 (phase 1), is the section from the center of Thanh Hoa City connecting to Tho Xuan road to Nghi Son Economic Zone, with a length of over 11 km and a total investment of VND 1,485 billion.
Sub-project 2, the section from No Hen Bridge to DT.514, is over 12km long and has a total investment of nearly VND 972 billion. Sub-project 3, the section from DT.514 to Tho Xuan Airport, is 11km long with a total investment of VND 1,109 billion. These two sub-projects were started in October 2020 (phase 2).
However, up to now, only Sub-project 1 has been basically completed. The remaining over 20 km of road belonging to the above-mentioned two sub-projects are lacking construction machinery and equipment.

According to the Management Board of Transport Projects of Thanh Hoa province, the reason for the suspension of the project and the delay in progress is the lack of capital and slow site clearance.
Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee of Thanh Hoa province, Mr. Mai Xuan Liem, has signed a decision to adjust the project implementation time from no more than 5 years (from 2019 to 2023) to completion in 2025.
