The Chairman of the Quang Ninh Provincial People’s Committee recently inspected the site, addressing challenges to expedite the National Highway 279 (QL279) upgrade project—a critical transportation initiative with over VND 1.8 trillion in investment.

Approved in late 2022 and launched in May 2024, the QL279 upgrade aims to modernize infrastructure, resolve existing issues, and enhance regional connectivity.

The Dien Vong Bridge, a key component, is nearing completion.

Spanning 8.6 km, the route connects QL18 (Quang Hanh Ward) to the Ha Long – Van Don Expressway (Thong Nhat Commune). Designed for six lanes, the project includes drainage, lighting, safety systems, expansion of the Dien Vong Bridge, and two interchanges: a grade-separated junction with QL18 and the Dong La intersection.

Initially slated for 2025 completion, the project faces delays due to land clearance challenges under the 2024 Land Law, slow utility relocation, extensive earthworks, and design adjustments. Despite these hurdles, progress continues.

The Dien Vong Bridge is nearly complete, with ongoing waterproofing and railing installation. At the QL18 overpass, I-beams and super-T girders are in place, and Pier 2’s foundation piles are 40% complete. The main pier’s cap beam and columns are finished.

For the roadbed, contractors have completed 66% of earthworks (3 million m³ out of 4.5 million m³). The final 2 km section’s subgrade is ready for aggregate base construction.

Contractors are focused on roadbed excavation and embankment.

As a key infrastructure project, Chairman Bui Van Khang directed contractors to accelerate work with 24/7 shifts, leveraging favorable weather to meet deadlines.

The Chairman will convene departments to approve project adjustments. Quang Hanh Ward and relevant agencies must finalize land clearance for remaining households and organizations by November 2025.

He also ordered efficient soil allocation across projects to minimize waste and ensure traffic safety. Sections ready for aggregate base work must proceed immediately to boost disbursement and the province’s 2025 economic growth.

The project must be completed by June 2026, enhancing the Northeast region’s connectivity and supporting Quang Ninh’s sustainable development goals.
