Starting from 0:00 on February 1st, Vietnam Expressway Corporation (VEC) will increase tolls on 4 expressways, including the Nội Bài – Lào Cai expressway

Prior to this, the Ministry of Transport had agreed to increase tolls on 4 expressways: Nội Bài – Lào Cai, Cầu Giẽ – Ninh Bình, Đà Nẵng – Quảng Ngãi, and TP HCM – Long Thành – Dầu Giây, which are managed and operated by Vietnam Expressway Corporation (VEC) as previously proposed by the company. These are the expressways with high traffic volume.

Among the 4 expressways with increased tolls, 3 expressways apply a 12% increase: Nội Bài – Lào Cai, Cầu Giẽ – Ninh Bình, and Đà Nẵng – Quảng Ngãi. The TP HCM – Long Thành – Dầu Giây expressway has a toll increase of 5% compared to the current rate.

In the proposal submitted to the Ministry of Transport earlier, VEC stated that according to the financial plan issued by the Minister of Transport in 2016, the toll increase schedule is every 3 years with a 12% increase each time. However, the aforementioned VEC expressway projects have not had toll increases since they were put into operation. On the contrary, there have been periods of toll reduction to support businesses as directed by the Government.

From 2024, the debt repayment cost of VEC’s road construction loans will increase continuously, while the expressways have reached the timeframe for renovation and major repairs. Maintaining the current toll rate will affect the financial plan of the projects.

Therefore, VEC will adjust the toll increase rate to 12% for the Nội Bài – Lào Cai, Cầu Giẽ – Ninh Bình, and Đà Nẵng – Quảng Ngãi expressways, and 5% for the TP HCM – Long Thành – Dầu Giây expressway.

Specifically, the toll on the Cầu Giẽ – Ninh Bình and Đà Nẵng – Quảng Ngãi expressways will increase from 1,500 VND/CPU (converted unit of small vehicles)/km to 1,680 VND/CPU/km (12% increase).

The toll on the TP HCM – Long Thành – Dầu Giây expressway will increase from 2,000 VND/CPU/km to 2,100 VND/CPU/km (5% increase, up to the maximum price stipulated by the Ministry of Transport).

For the Nội Bài – Lào Cai expressway, the toll from the Nội Bài – Yên Bái section (4 lanes with full vehicles, speed of 100 km/h) will increase from 1,500 VND/CPU/km to 1,680 VND/CPU/km (12% increase). From the Yên Bái – Lào Cai section (primarily 2 lanes, speed of 80 km/h), the toll will increase from 1,000 VND/CPU/km to 1,120 VND/CPU/km (12% increase).

New toll rates for the 4 expressways managed by VEC are as follows:
