Dynamic Job Market After Lunar New Year

According to HR experts, the beginning of the year, after Tet holiday, is usually the best time of the year to recruit new employees. This is when workers are returning to job hunting after the holiday break, and businesses often have plans to hire additional staff to support new production and business plans for the year.

The recruitment activities are booming in the labor market, with businesses in various industries looking for a large number of workers in the first quarter of 2024.

INCREASED RECRUITMENT DEMAND AT THE BEGINNING OF THE YEAR

Although there is no immediate need for personnel at this time, to prepare for the 2024 West Lake Water Park season, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Hong, Deputy Head of the Administrative Organization Department of Hanoi Entertainment Services Joint Stock Company, said that the unit is recruiting more than 100 workers for nearly 20 positions. The recruitment includes both full-time and part-time positions, but some positions can be flexible such as security, rescue, environment, ticket checking, ticket selling, food selling…

The income of workers ranges from 6 – 8 million VND, in addition to other benefits such as free meals, uniform distribution, and sales bonuses.

Since it is not yet the peak season for water park operations, Ms. Hong said that the unit is currently mainly disseminating recruitment information to the market to reach a wide range of labor groups with demand. The official recruitment period will start from late March, early April.

“This year, the recruitment demand of the company is slightly higher than last year. With new strategies and expanded operations, we will also need to supplement core personnel in the future,” Ms. Hong informed.

Meanwhile, Ms. Nguyen Thi Lan, Deputy Director of the Recruitment and Training Department of VNPT Building Management and Operations Joint Stock Company, said that in the first and second quarters of 2024, the company has a demand to recruit 60 positions, including technical personnel, receptionists, and building managers. Compared to the same period last year, the recruitment volume has increased slightly.

According to observations, job opportunities at the beginning of the year offered by businesses are mostly in line with the actual job-seeking needs of workers and the companies themselves.

“The beginning of the year is usually the time when there is a shift in the number of personnel among businesses not only in Hanoi but also in other regions and localities. Therefore, job opportunities for workers at this time are also very large,” Ms. Lan commented.

With diverse information, according to Ms. Lan, when workers are job searching at this time, they will have more choices, trials, and comparisons in balancing their job search in terms of income, nature of work, and company environment, thereby making the most suitable choice for their needs. “This is also a very good opportunity to start and launch a year of work,” Ms. Lan noted.

BUSINESSES KEEP UP WITH CHANGES IN THE RECRUITMENT MARKET

Having worked in human resources for many years, a representative of the VNPT Building Management and Operations Joint Stock Company noticed a significant change in the job-seeking needs of workers compared to before.

“Three years ago, when workers came for an interview with our company, about 90% of them would always have 3 questions to ask the employer, namely how much salary, what the job is like, and what the benefits are,” Ms. Lan said.

However, in the past year, this has changed, with 90% of the personnel asking additional questions about career advancement and self-development opportunities with the company. “This is the most noticeable change for the recruitment department compared to previous years,” Ms. Lan noted.

Nevertheless, the positive thing is that when workers understand what they want, their rights, and the promotion opportunities available to them, their level of commitment and dedication to the company will always be at its highest.

Realizing this change, Ms. Lan said that the unit has started to develop a clear career advancement plan for workers to propose to the company’s management.

Specifically, a career advancement map will be developed for workers. When joining the company, in addition to signing an official contract, workers will receive a career development plan. The company will accompany them in training from skills to certifications related to their work. Based on that trajectory, they will have evaluations and better self-development.

“We believe that when there is a clear career advancement plan, with quantifiable benchmarks and company support, creating conditions for workers to achieve their expectations, it will also be a motivation for them to enhance their value, to establish a long-term and stable relationship with the company,” Ms. Lan emphasized.

Mr. Vu Quang Thanh, Deputy Director of the Hanoi Employment Service Center, said that currently, with many job positions, it is also easier for workers to find the most suitable jobs. Many businesses also provide transport support to attract a diverse labor force from neighboring areas to work and build bonds.

“Based on our observations, most businesses offer very good policies, including transportation support, so the issue of distance is no longer a barrier to the workforce. Workers can work in different locations, provinces, and cities when looking for the most suitable job,” Mr. Thanh assessed.

However, although the labor market is showing positive signs of recovery, there are also potential difficulties. Therefore, Mr. Thanh advises workers to consider various factors when choosing a new job. Even in difficult times, businesses also need to share, accompany, and stick together to overcome challenges.

In unavoidable cases where income decreases significantly, workers can consider finding a new job, but they need to carefully consider job positions, nature of work, and benefits to ensure that the new job meets the criteria and stabilizes their lives as soon as possible.
