In early 2024, Viettel Post held a launching ceremony and announced its strategy to transform into a professional, green, and efficient logistics company, no longer just a delivery enterprise. According to the statement, Viettel Post aims to excel in key areas such as logistics parks, smart border gates, cross-border logistics infrastructure, intermodal systems that connect industrial parks, farming areas, etc. with road, sea, border, and air transportation hubs.

Among them, the logistics park system will provide comprehensive logistics services such as post-harvest preservation technology, customs clearance services, inspection, and quarantine services, which will be recognized in other countries. The logistics park network will also help connect regions, farming areas, and industrial parks with road, rail, sea, and air transportation hubs and border gates.

Sharing with the Government Newspaper, Viettel Post stated that to develop logistics parks and ensure complete systems from intelligent warehouses to customs services, it will employ university-educated engineers instead of manual laborers. Additionally, all operations will utilize robots, adhere to the highest standards, and establish key performance indicators (KPIs) for optimal operations. The highly automated logistics parks can reduce labor by 60-70%, optimizing costs with the fastest cargo circulation time and the lowest expenses.

Another important component is the smart border gate system. Lieutenant Colonel Hoang Trung Thanh – General Director of Viettel Post stated that the planned smart border gate system would apply cross-border transport technologies with autonomous AGVs (Automated Guided Vehicles) that can operate in all weather conditions, 24/7, controlled by 5G networks, thereby increasing customs clearance capacity by 4-5 times, effectively resolving congestion and reducing customs clearance costs by up to 70%.

Viettel Post is also negotiating and collaborating with the authorities of Nanjing, China on logistics investment opportunities, including establishing offices, logistics centers in Nanjing, boosting trade activities between the two countries, increasing rail transport between Vietnam and China, and forming an association for Vietnam-China import-export logistics companies to optimize costs and shorten transportation time between the two countries.

If successful, Vietnam will become a logistics hub connecting 700 million ASEAN population with the 1.4 billion Chinese market, and can potentially become a global logistics hub.

Prior to this, Viettel Post inaugurated Vietnam’s first Intelligent Sorting Technology Complex in Quang Minh (Me Linh, Hanoi), introduced as having the highest level of automation in Vietnam. The complex utilizes 200 AGV robots for sorting goods, a large-scale sorting system (Wheel Sorter Matrix), and a belt conveyor sorting system (Cross-belt Sorter). Viettel Post is the first logistics company in Vietnam to deploy AGV robot technology, thereby achieving 99% automation in the sorting process.

With over 40 import/export gates and nearly 1,200 sorting gates, the complex has a processing capacity of up to 1.4 million parcels per day, a 40% increase compared to before, helping raise the entire Viettel Post system’s handling capacity to 4 million parcels per day, equivalent to serving 50% of Vietnam’s e-commerce volume. The error rate of the complex is almost zero, shortening the overall delivery time to 8-10 hours and increasing productivity by 3.5 times. Thanks to automation, the complex also reduces 60% of the workforce.

In late December 2023, nearly 122 million shares of Viettel Corporation (Viettel Post, Stock code: VTP) were approved for listing on the Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange (HOSE). Recently, VTP shares have been actively traded with good liquidity on the UPCoM market. The VTP stock price has also shown positive signals, reaching a peak of VND 50,000 per share and currently maintaining at the level of VND 48,600 – 49,000 per share.

Viettel Post’s leadership sets the goal of increasing revenue tenfold in the next 5 years from 2023, equivalent to a growth rate of 60-65% per year for both core activities and new sectors. Pioneering technology logistics in Vietnam gives Viettel Post a competitive advantage. This facilitates Viettel Post’s next step, “Go Global,” to expand and build cross-border logistics infrastructure, making Vietnam a regional and global logistics hub.
