Propose Early Recognition of Market Economy Status for Vietnam by the United States

On the afternoon of March 4th, at the Government Headquarters, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang received Nitin Darbari, Senior Vice President of Procter & Gamble (P&G) who is currently on a working visit to Vietnam.

During the meeting, the Deputy Prime Minister praised the investment activities of the Group in Vietnam, contributing to the socio-economic development of Vietnam as well as the Vietnam-US relationship.

The Deputy Prime Minister suggested that P&G expand its partnership with Vietnamese businesses, create opportunities for Vietnamese businesses to participate in the Group’s supply chain, and pay attention to the training of human resources for Vietnam.

The Deputy Prime Minister also expressed the hope that P&G and US enterprises would have a voice in order for the US government to soon recognize the market economy regime for Vietnam.

The Deputy Prime Minister affirmed that the Government of Vietnam always pays attention to and values the improvement of the investment environment, promotes transformation in order to create favorable conditions for foreign businesses to operate in Vietnam in the long term.

P&G Vice President Nitin Darbari appreciated the efforts of the Government in making Vietnam a center for attracting foreign investment and overcoming global headwinds to achieve a growth rate of 5.05% in 2023.

Mr. Nitin Darbari expressed his gratitude to the Government of Vietnam for supporting P&G during the COVID-19 pandemic, emphasizing that P&G considers Vietnam as one of its strategic markets, aiming to make Vietnam a production center for the region and a sustainable source of supply for P&G’s other markets.

P&G is one of the leading multinational corporations in the consumer goods industry in the United States, having invested $450 million in Vietnam since 1995.

P&G has recruited more than 830 highly skilled workers and indirectly created jobs for over 5,000 workers, while also engaging in various community activities and public-private partnerships in Vietnam.

The Group is in the process of expanding its shaving product production line from 2024 to 2026 and introducing new blade production technology to Vietnam for key exports to Asian-Pacific markets. This advanced technology currently only exists in the US and Germany in P&G’s production chain.

P&G is also diversifying and promoting inclusiveness in its global supply chain by enhancing the presence of women-led supply businesses. In 2023, for the first time, P&G will organize the global Women Entrepreneurs Academy program in Vietnam, helping to enhance the capacity of current and potential women entrepreneurs in the local supply chain of the Group.
