Hung Duc Bridge, which spans the Lam River, connects the provinces of Nghe An and Ha Tinh as part of the North-South Expressway project’s Dien Chau – Bai Vot section. The bridge is 4.1km long and consists of road and approach bridges at both ends. Construction of the bridge began in 2022 with a total investment of over VND 1.2 trillion.

After 2 years of construction, the bridge is nearing completion. Currently, the project has reached 95% completion. It is expected that Hung Duc Bridge will be opened to traffic in the coming days and completed before April 30th.

According to the design, Hung Duc Bridge has a total of 90 spans. The section of the bridge crossing the Lam River consists of 5 spans, constructed using the prestressed concrete box girder technology with a large span of up to 120m. The bridge has a width of 17.5m with 4 lanes, and a median barrier in the middle.

The section of the bridge crossing the Lam River is 510m long, followed by a section crossing the La Giang River (Ha Tinh) that is 147m long. In addition, there is a 2.2km approach road in Ha Tinh province, which is designed as an embankment instead of a bridge.

Nguyen Quang Trung, the engineer in charge of Hung Duc Bridge at Cienco 4 Corporation, said that the most difficult part of the construction of the bridge is the pile-driving process in the middle of the Lam River. Each span is supported by 22 piles, with a depth of 50m.

The construction of the bridge piers in the middle of the Lam River also faced challenges due to unusual fluctuations in water levels. The workers had to work quickly to avoid the flood season.

“There are still 2 remaining connection points in the Lam River, which are expected to be completed soon, allowing the bridge to be opened to traffic,” said engineer Nguyen Quang Trung.

On the territory of Ha Tinh province, the 2.2km long approach road has been completed.

In recent days, the construction companies of Hung Duc Bridge have mobilized machinery and workers to complete the bridge on schedule.

On the construction site, workers are working diligently.

At the connection points between the spans on the river, workers are performing the final steps to pour the high-strength concrete into the bridge within the next few days.

In addition to focusing on the remaining connection points on the river, workers from the construction companies of Hung Duc Bridge are also cleaning the bridge deck to carry out the next steps such as installing the railing, road surfacing, and other auxiliary works.

After 2 years of construction, Hung Duc Bridge has taken shape. Once completed and put into use, Hung Duc Bridge will be the 5th bridge spanning the Lam River, connecting the provinces of Nghe An and Ha Tinh. Previously, 4 bridges have been put into use, including Ben Thuy 1 and 2 bridges, Cua Hoi Bridge, and Yen Xuan Bridge.

The final steps of the bridge are being carried out by the contractors who are mobilizing barges, tower cranes, and other equipment to complete the construction, so that it can be put into use as soon as possible.
