The Van Ninh – Cam Lo Expressway is an essential component of the North-South Expressway East Phase 2021-2025 project. Stretching across 62.3 kilometers, it connects the provinces of Quang Binh and Quang Tri.

With a total investment of VND 9,900 billion, the project is represented by the Ho Chi Minh Road Project Management Unit (under the Ministry of Transport) as the investor and commenced construction in January 2023.

According to the investment decision, the Van Ninh – Cam Lo Expressway is scheduled for completion in October 2025. However, due to urgent needs, including relieving traffic congestion on National Highway 1A, the investor is directing contractors to expedite construction.

The current construction status of the project reveals that the road foundation has been excavated and filled to grade.

To accelerate progress, contractors have been working on some items even during the night. The photo captures the construction site in Le Thuy District, Quang Binh Province.

Thanks to the expedited construction approach, several sections of the expressway’s foundation have been asphalted just over a year into construction.

Speaking to Tien Phong, the Ho Chi Minh Road Project Management Unit shared that as of August 15, 2024, the overall output reached approximately 55%, with road foundation completion at 74.2%. Notably, some kilometers of the project have been fully asphalted (C16 layer).

Regarding land clearance, the investor revealed that out of the total length of over 62 kilometers, only about 1 kilometer remains unresolved. This issue has been committed to be resolved by the provinces of Quang Binh and Quang Tri before August 30, 2024.

Given the substantial construction progress and land clearance achievements, the investor announced an ambitious plan to open the expressway to traffic by April 30, 2025, six months ahead of the initial schedule (October 2025).

Construction Progress of the Van Ninh – Cam Lo Expressway as of Mid-August 2024:

Overall output reached approximately 55% of the contract value. Specifically, road foundation completion: 46.28/62.32 kilometers, or 74.26%; road subgrade completion: 43.63 kilometers, or 70.01%; asphalt concrete base course (ATB) completion: 36.24 kilometers, or 58.15%; asphalt concrete binder course (C19) completion: 35.84 kilometers, or 57.51%; asphalt concrete wearing course (C16) completion: 28.00 kilometers, or 42.72%.

As of August 15, the local authorities of the two provinces handed over 64.852 kilometers of cleared land, accounting for 98.93% of the total length. The remaining land to be cleared (including areas with soft soil) is approximately 1 kilometer, located in Quang Binh and Quang Tri provinces.
