Introducing BYD’s upcoming new pickup truck: Looks like Ford Ranger, with electric engine option similar to VinFast VF Wild

Following the remarkable success achieved in 2023 with the climax being the overthrow of Tesla, BYD is planning to expand its lineup to new segments to maintain its growth momentum. In addition to the luxury segment handled by the YangWang sub-brand, BYD is also targeting the off-road segment with the FangChengBao sub-brand announced last August.

In mid-February, a model belonging to the FangChengBao lineup was leaked in China. Still in the testing phase, this pickup model has a “common” exterior design compared to current models on the market.

The front of the pickup bears resemblance to the Ford Ranger with its headlights, front bumper, and lower skid plate. Under the black stripe, the grille and the connecting LED strip between the headlights can be seen.

The side of the BYD pickup appears rugged and muscular with its square wheel arches, roof racks, large side mirrors, and wide door sills. In contrast to the front, the rear of the vehicle is kept simple with “basic” taillights and a running LED strip in the middle.

While the exterior of the BYD pickup may somewhat resemble the Ford Ranger/F-150, its interior is definitely unmatched by any rival. In front of the driver is a basic instrument cluster, while next to it is a very large infotainment screen.

The flat-bottomed steering wheel, center console with gear lever, large knobs/levers for adjustments, and 2 wireless phone charging pads are some notable equipment that can be observed.

According to Car News China – a rare English-language source of automotive news from China, the BYD pickup will be available in both pure electric and plug-in hybrid drivetrains. Only the numbers for the hybrid variant have been speculated, with a predicted output of around 490 horsepower generated by a 1.5L engine combined with 2 electric motors.
