On February 19, the People’s Committee of Long An province organized a meeting between provincial leaders and representatives of associations and businesses on the occasion of the Lunar New Year 2024. Mr. Nguyen Van Due – Secretary of Long An Provincial Party Committee – attended the meeting and handed out lucky money (New Year’s greetings) to representatives of associations and businesses.

In his speech at the meeting, Mr. Nguyen Van Due, Secretary of Long An Provincial Party Committee, assessed that the economic situation in 2023 was more difficult than in 2022.

According to Mr. Due, the unpredictable fluctuations in the global economic and political situation have greatly affected the socio-economic development of Vietnam and Long An province in particular.

“In the face of adversity, with innovative thinking and actions, a series of decisive measures have been implemented in all areas. The Party, government, people, and business community in and outside Long An province have together overcome challenges and achieved comprehensive success in all sectors,” emphasized Mr. Nguyen Van Due, Secretary of Long An Provincial Party Committee.

The province’s economic growth rate reached 5.77%, higher than the national average. Long An’s economic scale ranks 13th nationwide. Per capita income exceeded 96 million VND (equivalent to 4,000 USD).

In addition, Long An’s budget revenue in 2023 reached 21,000 billion VND. Both domestic and foreign investment in the province increased compared to the same period. Specifically, Long An issued investment certificates for 65 domestic projects with a total newly registered capital of over 56,000 billion VND, a 2.5 times increment. New foreign direct investment (FDI) projects reached nearly 600 million USD, an increase of 73% compared to the previous year.

According to Mr. Nguyen Van Due, Secretary of Long An Provincial Party Committee, many notable events were organized in 2023. Many important national and provincial transportation projects were started, turning Long An into a “construction site.” Especially, Long An focused on taking good care of people’s lives, “not leaving anyone behind.” During the recent Lunar New Year, businesses showed their concerns and contributions by taking care of social security work, supporting the lives of the poor, workers facing difficulties, those who lost or reduced their jobs, and those who had reduced working hours… with a total budget for social security reaching nearly 100 billion VND.

Representatives of businesses express their expectations to the leaders of Long An province.

“In the coming time, I hope that the business community will continue to play a central role, take the lead in applying science and technology, invest in increasing labor productivity, digital transformation, contribute to administrative procedure reform, and improve the quality of human resources… From there, businesses can proactively cope with any situation, promote production and business in the new situation, and join hands in the common development of our homeland, Long An,” expressed Mr. Due.
