The Binh Phuoc Provincial People’s Council recently sent a recommendation to the Ministry of Transport (MoT) requesting an extension of the vehicle inspection deadline for private cars in order to ensure safety and reduce financial difficulties for individuals.

In response to this issue, the MoT stated that in 2023, it reviewed and amended regulations related to the adjustment of the vehicle inspection deadline for private cars to create more favorable conditions for vehicle owners in the inspection process.

Accordingly, the MoT issued Circular No. 02, which exempts the initial inspection for unused motor vehicles and extends the inspection cycle by an additional 6 months for non-commercial passenger vehicles (private cars) compared to the previous regulation.

According to the latest regulation, after the first inspection, cars and non-commercial transport vehicles will have to be inspected every 18 months.

“The adjustment of the inspection cycle is based on scientific research, international inspection organizations’ experience, the evaluation of the vehicle’s operation process, and factors such as the vehicle’s age, components, systems (suspension, steering, brake systems, etc.), as well as the frequency of vehicle usage and the operating environment,” the MoT said.

Regarding the recommendation to further loosen the vehicle inspection deadline for private cars, the MoT said it will assign relevant agencies and units to study related factors (vehicle age, frequency of use, operating environment) that are suitable for practical conditions in Vietnam and refer to international regulations.

Based on that, the MoT will consider adjusting the inspection cycle at an appropriate time to ensure technical safety conditions for vehicles, contribute to maintaining traffic order and safety, and create convenience for vehicle owners.

According to the latest regulation on vehicle inspection deadlines for cars and non-commercial transport vehicles, the initial inspection cycle is 30 months. Afterward, it is every 18 months. When reaching 7 years from the production day, the inspection cycle will be shortened to 12 months. If the vehicle has a lifespan of more than 12 years from the production day, the cycle will be reduced to 6 months once.
