Xiaomi SU7 Electric Car Orders Surge Past 75,000, Gains Traction with Female Drivers

April 27, 2024 – Beijing, China: Xiaomi officially launched its SU7 electric vehicle on March 28 in China. Just days later (April 3), the company held a ceremony to deliver the first cars to customers at its Beijing factory.

During Xiaomi’s participation in the recent Beijing Auto Show, CEO Lei Jun shared updates on the SU7’s sales and production progress. As of April 24, Xiaomi had received 75,723 orders. Over 5,000 new orders were placed from April 20 to 24. A total of 5,781 vehicles were delivered to customers within 28 days.

Jun expressed pride in the positive response to the SU7. “I knew the Xiaomi SU7 would face skepticism. Sure enough, after its launch, people scrutinized the car for any potential issues. But I am thrilled to share that the reception has been overwhelmingly positive. I couldn’t be prouder,” he said.

Xiaomi SU7’s self-driving feature, Xiaomi Pilot, is also gaining traction. Jun reported that 79% of Xiaomi SU7 drivers actively use Xiaomi Pilot. The total distance driven has reached over 600,000km, with a maximum daily distance of 1,400km.

The SU7 has also proven popular with female drivers, with 28% of orders coming from women. Jun attributed this to the SU7’s stylish design, UV protection, and ample storage space, predicting that women will make up 40-50% of SU7 owners.

Notably, Xiaomi has observed that previous owners of luxury brands such as Mercedes, BMW, and Audi have opted for the Xiaomi SU7. “The advanced technology and superb driving experience seem to have won them over. While we acknowledge the expertise of these brands in various aspects, it is our smart technology that truly sets the Xiaomi SU7 apart,” Jun noted.

The Xiaomi SU7 was officially launched on March 28 and is priced from 215,900 to 299,900 Chinese yuan (approximately $30,000 to $42,000), available in three versions: the Standard SU7, SU7 Pro, and SU7 Max.

All three SU7 variants feature a modern and elegant 4-door coupe design, measuring 4997mm in length, 1963mm in width, 1440mm in height, and a 3000mm wheelbase. While the SU7 and SU7 Pro have a single motor with 220kW of power and accelerate from 0-100km/h in 5.28 seconds, the SU7 Max boasts a dual-motor setup with 495kW of power and a 2.78-second 0-100km/h acceleration time. The Max version also offers an improved driving range of 800km (compared to 700km for the other two versions).

The SU7’s interior is equipped with amenities such as a panoramic sunroof, Nappa leather seats, a refrigerator, HUD, wireless charging, a 16.1-inch main display, and a 25-speaker audio system. The SU7’s infotainment system runs on the Snapdragon 8295 chip, MIUI Car operating system, and integrates seamlessly with Xiaomi smartphones, XiaoAI voice assistant, and other devices within the Mi Home/HyperOS Connect ecosystem. Users can even use an iPad or Xiaomi Pad as the rear-seat entertainment display.
