Unforeseen sharp reduction in flight tickets from Ho Chi Minh City

Unlike the previous days of 27th, 28th, and 29th of the lunar calendar, the airfare from Ho Chi Minh City to northern provinces on 9th February (or 30th of Tet) has significantly reduced. In fact, passengers can still purchase tickets for same-day travel as there are still plenty of flights available.

Flight tickets from Ho Chi Minh City to Hanoi on February 9th are only 2.8 million VND. Meanwhile, tickets to Vinh (Nghe An) are currently priced at 3.5 million VND. It is worth noting that the night flight operated by Vietjet Air from Ho Chi Minh City to Da Nang is discounted to 2.3 million VND.

According to the survey from February 6th to 8th (27th to 29th of the Lunar month), tickets to northern provinces are all priced above 3.5 million VND, even exceeding 10 million VND for connecting routes.

Most flights from Ho Chi Minh City to Quy Nhon, Da Nang, and Hai Phong still have available tickets for the night of the 30th day of Tet. However, it is more difficult for passengers to book flights from Ho Chi Minh City to Thanh Hoa, Quang Ninh, and Nha Trang.

According to the observation of PV Tien Phong, many areas at domestic terminals unexpectedly became spacious during the peak hours on the morning of the 30th day of Tet. On the last day of the Lunar year, Tan Son Nhat International Airport is expected to operate 655 flights with over 100,000 passengers, a decrease of nearly 22,000 passengers compared to the previous day. The peak of this year’s high season is over 134,000 passengers.

The highest number of passengers fly during the morning hours from 9 am to 1 pm, the afternoon from 3 pm to 6 pm, and at night from 9 pm to 10 pm. Even on the New Year’s Eve, Tan Son Nhat – Ho Chi Minh City Airport still operates about 30 flights, carrying around 900 passengers.
