On the morning of February 17, the Urban Railway Management Board of Ho Chi Minh City (MAUR) held a ceremony to kick off the construction of the Giap Thin 2024 project under the construction of Metro Line 2 (Ben Thanh – Tham Luong).

Implementing the project construction protocol

During the event, Mr. Bui Anh Huan, Deputy Head of the Urban Railway Management Board of Ho Chi Minh City, emphasized that the project has been agreed upon by all parties and has completed the relocation of technical infrastructure works in 2024 to prepare for handover to the main contractor for tunnel construction and stations in 2025.

“In 2024, the project will primarily focus on relocating technical infrastructure works. At the same time, the project’s general consultancy will be selected, bidding documents will be prepared, and tender procedures will be conducted, with the main contracts awarded in 2025,” said Mr. Bui Anh Huan.

Accordingly, MAUR announced that the relocation of technical infrastructure works for Metro Line 2 has met the conditions for simultaneous construction. At the same time, contractors are urged to quickly mobilize labor and machinery for construction.

Overview of Metro Line 2

Mr. Dương Bá Đoàn, Director of Construction and Traffic Management Company 236 (C36) – the contractor responsible for drainage package 1 of Metro Line 2, stated that in the spirit of the new lunar year, the contractor will coordinate with water and electricity contractors to commence construction immediately after the ceremony.

According to Mr. Đoàn, in 2024, the contractor will mainly focus on completing the drainage infrastructure, ensuring 80% of the value of the work. This aims to contribute to public investment disbursement for Ho Chi Minh City and ensure the progress of the project’s next tasks.

Previously, on June 22, 2023, MAUR held a groundbreaking ceremony for the electrical works. To date, the relocation of technical infrastructure works has completed the selection of contractors for relocation – reinstatement packages for water supply systems, drainage systems, lighting, signage, and traffic signal lamps in December 2023.

The construction of Metro Line 2 (Ben Thanh – Tham Luong) was approved by the People’s Committee of Ho Chi Minh City in Decision No. 4474/QD-UBND dated October 11, 2010, and approved for adjustment in Decision No. 4880/QD-UBND dated November 14, 2019, with a total investment of VND 47,890.84 billion.
