The Ministry of Transport (MOT) has submitted a report to the Government Office on the travel services for the Vietnamese people during the Lunar New Year holiday 2024. According to that, the number of air passengers during this year’s holiday reached nearly 1.3 million, an increase of 9.6% compared to the same period last year.

International passengers reached over 633,000, an increase of nearly 49%, while domestic passengers reached over 628,000, a decrease of over 13%. The volume of goods reached 7.5 million tons, an increase of 6.7% compared to last year.

The railway industry dispatched 104 unified trains and 219 local trains, an increase of nearly 3% compared to the same period in 2023, serving nearly 205,000 passengers, an increase of 8.5%.

Regarding road transport, except for Hanoi, major cities such as Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, Hai Phong, and Can Tho all experienced an increase in inter-provincial passenger transport. In Ho Chi Minh City, the number of passengers passing through bus stations reached over 456,000, an increase of 28% compared to the same period last year.

The aviation industry transported over 628,000 passengers during the Lunar New Year holiday.

In Da Nang, the number of passengers passing through bus stations reached nearly 450,000, an increase of nearly 20% compared to the same period. In Hai Phong, the number of passengers passing through bus stations reached over 17,000, an increase of about 5%. In Can Tho, the number of passengers passing through bus stations reached over 50,000, an increase of 18%.

In Hanoi, the number of passengers passing through bus stations reached 106,000 passengers, a decrease of 3% in passenger volume despite an increase of about 5.3% in the number of trips. The decrease in passenger volume is due to passengers choosing to use ride-sharing services to travel to provinces near Hanoi.

In general, the Ministry of Transport assessed that the inter-provincial passenger transport routes essentially met the demand for vehicles and served the travel needs of the people well. They proactively arranged standby vehicles to transport passengers in case of congestion or sudden increases in passenger volume, and carried out the principle of “ensuring that people have transportation back home for the Lunar New Year.”

“The transportation needs of the people before and during the Lunar New Year were ensured, and issues such as overcrowding of passengers, overloading, and high ticket prices were promptly addressed. The security and order at bus stations, train stations, and airports on transportation routes and on passenger vehicles were well maintained,” the Ministry of Transport said.
