Opportunity to increase exports to China

The export statistics from the General Department of Customs, according to the Import-Export Department, in 2023, Vietnam exported 22.45 thousand tons of meat and meat products, worth $110.35 million, an increase of 19% in quantity and 30.4% in value compared to 2022. It is worth noting that Vietnam’s meat and meat products were exported to 28 markets worldwide, with the majority being exported to markets such as Hong Kong (China), China, Belgium, Papua New Guinea, Malaysia, Cambodia, France, and the United States.

In particular, Hong Kong (China) remains the largest market for Vietnam’s meat and meat products, accounting for 42.88% in quantity and 54.44% in value of the total export of meat and meat products of the whole country, with 9.63 thousand tons, worth $60.07 million, an increase of 25.3% in quantity and 41% in value compared to 2022. According to the Import-Export Department, in 2023, Vietnam mainly exported fresh, chilled, or frozen pork (mainly suckling pig and frozen whole pig meat); other meat and edible offal of other animals, fresh, chilled, or frozen; meat and edible offal of poultry, fresh, chilled, or frozen; meat and edible offal, salted, in brine, dried or smoked; buffalo and frozen fresh cattle meat…

Among them, the largest export was fresh, chilled, or frozen pork (mainly suckling pig and frozen whole pig meat) with 10.77 thousand tons, worth $63.35 million, an increase of 2.7% in quantity and 24.7% in value compared to 2022. Also in 2023, the export of poultry meat and edible offal increased significantly, reaching 4.77 thousand tons, worth $12.04 million, an increase of 136.1% in quantity and 214% in value compared to 2022. The main export markets were China, Papua New Guinea, Malaysia, South Korea, and Hong Kong (China).
