The State Capital Investment and Business Corporation (SCIC) has recently announced the list of divestments in the first quarter of 2024, including 27 companies. Among them, some notable names that are currently trading on the stock exchange include Domesco Corporation for Medical Import and Export (DMC), Vietnam Book Corporation (Savina – VNB), and Vietnam Seafood Corporation (Seaprodex – SEA).

Domesco is one of the hot names in the pharmaceutical industry with a charter capital of 347 billion VND, in which SCIC holds 35%. Abbott, the giant, currently holds controlling power over nearly 52% of the company’s shares after the famous takeover deal in 2012. Domesco’s market capitalization is currently around 2,000 billion VND.

Meanwhile, Seaprodex was established in 1978 and was once the leader in the domestic seafood industry before the rise of private companies. The company currently has a charter capital of 1,250 billion VND and a market capitalization of nearly 3,875 billion VND. Its main business activities are related to aquaculture and exploitation of seafood, along with other areas such as animal feed, real estate, etc.

In addition to its core activities, Seaprodex is also known as a company that owns prime land, with its headquarters located at 2-4-6 Dong Khoi, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City. The company also has an ongoing construction project to acquire the right to use the land of Blue Sapphire Hotel in Vung Tau and project No. 2 on Ngo Gia Tu, Hanoi.

Recently, SEA shares unexpectedly surged with the appearance of Nova Hospitality Corporation – a subsidiary of No Va Investment Group Corporation (Novaland – NVL) in early December 2023. Nova Hospitality then sold 18 million SEA shares to reduce its ownership to 4.24% and is no longer a major shareholder of Seaprodex since December 26. In the current shareholder structure, besides SCIC holding 63% of the capital, Seaprodex has another major shareholder, HDCapital, with a 14.4% ownership.

Another notable name on the SCIC’s divestment list in 2024 is Savina, a subsidiary of Vingroup (holding more than 65% of the capital). The company has a charter capital of nearly 680 billion VND, in which SCIC holds 10%. Savina’s market capitalization is currently around 800 billion VND. Savina’s activities include book business, cultural products, and office rental. It is worth noting that VNB is the unit currently leasing and managing 6 land plots in Hanoi.
