The Minister of Housing and Local Government of Malaysia, Nga Kor Ming, shared with the media on March 8th that his agency is introducing a new social housing model called the People’s Residensi Program (PRR).

Minister Nga Kor Ming emphasized that the PRR will be well-integrated, sustainable, and livable, with green spaces, community centers, and various amenities.

Minister Ming stated that the construction cost of each PRR apartment is 300,000 RM (1.58 billion VND), but they will be sold for 60,000 RM (316 million VND), providing quality homes for low-income groups.

He also emphasized to the local media, “There will be a 10-year ban on selling PRR apartments to prevent irresponsible parties from taking advantage of social housing as this is a privilege with many subsidies.”

The minimum area of PRR apartments will be 70 square meters with three bedrooms and two bathrooms.

In addition, Minister Ming shared: “We hope to increase the budget. Compared to the Housing Development Board (HDB) of Singapore with an annual budget of $30 billion, Malaysia’s PRR only receives 550 million RM, which is a very small amount.”
