Starting from 12:00 AM on March 1, 2024, the total capacity of EPS-managed power plants for operation, maintenance, and repair nationwide is 7418 MW.
Attendees at the ceremony included Mr. Vo Minh Thang – Deputy General Director of EVNGENCO 3, Leaders of EVNGENCO, EPS Company representatives, Phu My Power Company staff, and the operations and maintenance team of Phu My 3 Power Plant.
Phu My 3 Power Plant (Ba Ria – Vung Tau province) is the first power plant project in Vietnam to be invested in under the Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) form of joint venture by Sembcorp (Singapore), Kyuden International Corporation, and Sojitz Corporation (Japan). The plant has a design capacity of 716.8 MW, using a mixed cycle gas turbine configuration of 2-2-1, with natural gas and backup diesel oil as the main fuels. The project began commercial operation on March 1, 2004, with a duration of 20 years and was transferred without compensation to Vietnam on March 1, 2024, after the end of the BOT contract. Annually, Phu My 3 Power Plant supplies over 5 billion kWh to the National Power System to meet the electricity demand for the overall socio-economic development of the country and the Southern region in particular.
Overview of Phu My 3 Power Plant
With regard to the acceptance of the operation, maintenance, and repair of Phu My 3 Power Plant, the Prime Minister has issued Document No. 1223/TTg-KTTH dated November 25, 2023, regarding the transfer of BOT Power Plants Phu My 3 and Phu My 2.2 to Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN) for implementation of the tasks of acceptance, operation, business, maintenance, and preservation of the plants. Subsequently, EVN assigned EVNGENCO 3 to receive, manage the operation, repair, and maintenance tasks of the plants. EPS Company will lead the acceptance work and carry out the operation and maintenance contract for the power plant.
In order to effectively carry out the operation and maintenance work after the acceptance, EVNGENCO 3 requests EPS Company to continue to enhance the research and application of technical solutions and construction of O&M procedures to improve the effectiveness of operation, maintenance, and repair work, ensuring timely and close safe and continuous operation of the plant to meet the mobilization needs of the national power system, especially during the dry season of 2024. At the same time, it is necessary to strictly and fully implement issues related to environmental protection work, coordinate with local authorities and related units to effectively ensure security and order as well as the welfare of the area.
EPS Company is a brand built and developed by EVNGENCO 3 based on 26 years of experience in operating and maintaining large-capacity power plants. Currently, EPS is one of the leading units in Vietnam, responsible for managing the operation and maintenance of gas-fired, coal-fired, and solar power plants. On average, EPS carries out 15 major repair projects each year with a total value of over 1,300 billion VND.
