The Binh Phuoc Provincial People’s Council has recently sent a proposal to the Ministry of Transport (MoT) requesting an adjustment of the vehicle inspection deadline for private cars to relax the time limit in order to ensure safety and reduce financial difficulties while participating in traffic and to provide convenience for the people.

In response to this issue, the MoT stated that in 2023, they reviewed, amended, and supplemented regulations related to the adjustment of vehicle inspection deadlines for private cars to create more favorable conditions for vehicle owners in the inspection process.

Accordingly, the MoT issued Circular No. 02, which exempts the initial inspection for unused motor vehicles and adjusts the inspection cycle by adding 6 months for the group of private cars carrying up to 9 passengers without business transportation compared to the previous inspection cycle regulation.

According to the latest regulation, after the first inspection, cars and non-business transport vehicles will need to be inspected again every 18 months.

“The adjustment of the inspection cycle is determined based on scientific research, the experience of international inspection organizations, the evaluation of the operation process, and some factors such as the age of the vehicle, components, and systems (suspension, steering, braking systems…), as well as the frequency of vehicle use and operating environment,” the MoT said.

Regarding the proposal to further relax the vehicle inspection deadline for private cars, the MoT stated that they will assign agencies and units to continue researching relevant factors (the age of the vehicle, frequency of use, operating environment) suitable for practical conditions in Vietnam and refer to international regulations.

Based on that foundation, the Ministry will consider adjusting the inspection cycle at an appropriate time to ensure technical safety conditions for vehicles, contribute to ensuring traffic order and safety, and create convenience for vehicle owners.

According to the latest regulations on the vehicle inspection deadline, the initial inspection cycle for cars and non-business transport vehicles is 30 months. After that, it will be inspected every 18 months. When reaching 7 years from the production date, the inspection cycle will be shortened to 12 months. If the vehicle has a lifespan of over 12 years from the production date, the cycle will be further reduced to 6 months.
