CEO of Nha Nam Nguyen Nhat Anh suspended; what is his company’s share count?

In addition to his role as CEO and Legal Representative (according to the latest business license change in 10/2022), Mr. Nguyen Nhat Anh also holds a large number of shares in Nha Nam Culture and Communications JSC, the owner of the famous chain of bookstores of the same name.

In recent days, there has been a public outcry over the behavior of Mr. Nguyen Nhat Anh, General Director of Nha Nam, who was accused of having intimate and inappropriate behavior with a female employee. On April 18, an official statement was released on Nha Nam’s Facebook page regarding Mr. Nguyen Nhat Anh’s actions: “The Board of Directors of Nha Nam Company sincerely apologizes to our readers for the negative information that has been circulating about Nha Nam Company recently due to our failure to clarify the matter promptly and thoroughly” – an excerpt from the announcement on Nha Nam’s fanpage, which has around 1 million followers and likes.

The company stated: “Regarding the information and allegations related to the working environment at Nha Nam Company and Mr. Nguyen Nhat Anh (General Director), we have decided to temporarily suspend Mr. Anh’s position at the company.

We have appointed Mr. Duong Thanh Hoai, Deputy General Director, as the person responsible for handling all matters related to Nha Nam Company from this point forward. Accordingly, we will proceed with working with the relevant authorities and Mr. Nguyen Nhat Anh to verify and clarify the related incidents and information; determine the nature and extent of the incident; and determine the extent of harm caused to the relevant parties and to Nha Nam Company. Based on this, we will take appropriate disciplinary and remedial actions against Mr. Nguyen Nhat Anh at Nha Nam Company”.

The Board of Directors of the company said it will publicly disclose all information related to the incident as soon as it has been verified and clarified. At the same time, the Board of Directors of Nha Nam also apologizes to the former employee of the Company and to all authors and partners who have collaborated with Nha Nam and have been indirectly affected by the incident.

The announcement was made by the company a day after Mr. Nguyen Nhat Anh issued an apology on Nha Nam’s fanpage, which failed to satisfy the online community, and even drew a lot of outraged comments.

Mr. Nhat Anh holds a significant amount of shares in Nha Nam

According to the latest updated business registration certificate (October 3, 2022), Nha Nam Company is managed by Mr. Nguyen Nhat Anh as General Director and legal representative.

Nha Nam was established in 2005. The business license was amended in 2015, showing that Mr. Nguyen Nhat Anh has held the position of General Director and legal representative continuously until now.

The latest information on capital change (in August 2018) shows that Nha Nam has a charter capital of 13 billion VND. The founding shareholders include Mr. Nguyen Nhat Anh, who contributed the most with 57.19%, followed by Mr. Duong Thanh Hoai with 10.08%, Mr. Trinh Van Co with 7.18%, and Mr. Vu Hoang Giang with 6.5%.

On its website, Nha Nam introduces the company’s entry into the Vietnamese book market in February 2005 with the work “Balzac and the Chinese Seamstress” by Dai Si Jie. Among the awards that the company showcases on its website is the 2018 award of the Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters to Mr. Nguyen Nhat Anh, General Director of Nha Nam, by Mr. Étienne Rolland-Piègue, Counselor for Cooperation and Cultural Activities at the French Embassy in Vietnam.

In addition to Nha Nam, Mr. Nhat Anh is also the General Director, legal representative, and founding shareholder of Dooho Moc Chau Agriculture JSC. The company was established in March 2023 and is headquartered in Ang village, Dong Sang commune, Moc Chau district, Son La province. Its main business line is the wholesale of agricultural and forestry products (excluding wood, bamboo, rattan) and live animals. The charter capital is 1 billion VND, in which Mr. Nhat Anh holds 51%, Mr. Bui Ke Nghiep holds 24.5%, and Ms. Pham Thi Thu Van holds 24.5%.
