Shark Hung Anh: Expensive train and bus tickets prevent some people from going back to their hometown for Tet, combined with the expectation of giving gifts to others

Many people are reluctant to go back to their hometowns and have nothing to bring as gifts. But the common mentality of the Vietnamese people is that the closer it gets to Tet, the more they long to return to their hometowns. "That's the common mentality of the Vietnamese people, even if it's difficult, they must go back to their hometowns," shared Shark Hung Anh.

Sharing about the recent Lunar New Year, Shark Hung Anh confided: For him, a relaxed Tet is to have enough salary to pay the employees. That means, in work, there is responsibility with the laborers, and in the family, when returning home, be able to fully prepare.

And especially, no one comes to ask for debt. Otherwise, on the 27th, 28th, 29th of the Lunar month, if someone comes to ask for debt, it’s very tiring. And if there is extra, I will give a little to this person, a little to that person… I feel happy“, the shark from Quang Nam expressed.

The owner of BIN Corporation Group also confided that there was a time when every Tet came, he felt restless and worried about everything. Train and bus tickets were 4-5 times more expensive than usual.

For example, normally buying a ticket back home costs about 500,000-800,000 VND ($22-35), now during Tet it increases to 5 million VND ($220), and sometimes 5 million VND is not enough to buy one.

Economy class tickets are almost gone, now before Tet there are only business class tickets left, but how can laborers with a salary of 10-15 million VND ($440-660) afford to travel business class? For a family of 4-5 members to go back and forth during Tet, it costs 20-30 million VND ($880-1320)”.

“Then when returning home, the elders expect to give a little to this person, a little to that person. But now without anything, it’s hard for me to fulfill their expectations. Some people are hesitant to go back and celebrate Tet like that…“, Shark Hung Anh said.

But he also noted that the common psychology of Vietnamese people, especially during the days close to Tet like the 29th, 30th, and right before New Year’s Eve, is to long to return home, even though they thought they wouldn’t be able to.

I have noticed that everyone is happily and eagerly looking forward to going back home for Tet, not worrying. That’s the common thing among Vietnamese people. Even if it’s difficult, you have to go back home“, Shark Hung Anh said.
