Solar panel revenue in Vietnam nears $1.2 billion, Chinese company to invest an additional $454 million in third project in Thai Nguyen

A Chinese enterprise has been awarded an investment registration certificate by the Management Board of Industrial Zones of Thai Nguyen Province for a $454 million project to produce solar modules and energy panels.

According to the information released, the new Trina Solar Cell project has a total investment of $454 million (about VND 11 trillion) in Yen Binh Industrial Zone (Thai Nguyen) on an area of 141,000 m2. It is expected that the project will commence construction in May and be completed and put into operation by March 2025, with a production scale of over 11,500 tons of monocrystalline silicon bars per year, 555 million monocrystalline silicon panels and 560 million solar energy panels per year.

Upon completion, the project will bring the total value of Trina Solar Cell’s goods output in Thai Nguyen to between $2.7 – $2.8 billion per year; creating jobs for over 4,300 workers.

Prior to this, Trina Solar Cell has implemented two projects with a total registered capital of $478 million, including a project to produce photovoltaic modules (solar energy panels) with an investment capital of $203 million; and a project to produce monocrystalline silicon bars and monocrystalline silicon panels with an investment capital of $275 million.

With this third licensed project, Trina Solar Cell’s total investment capital in Thai Nguyen is now raised to $932 million. With two ongoing projects, the company had revenue of nearly $1.2 billion in 2023 and provided employment for 1,400 workers, of which 90% are Vietnamese.

According to the Management Board of Industrial Zones of Thai Nguyen Province, Trina Solar Cell’s projects all meet the criteria of high-tech production, environmental friendliness, and are in line with the investment attraction direction of the province.
