After Tet, many businesses in various localities across the country are in need of recruiting a large number of workers for production. The forecasted recruitment demand of businesses throughout the year is over 1 million workers. However, to avoid waiting for workers, many solutions are being implemented.

For example, in Ho Chi Minh City, workers returning to work after Tet at various gateways such as train stations and bus stations. This activity is carried out by the Job Service Center in coordination with businesses to recruit enough workers for production, which is booming right after Tet.

Nguyen Tam Thanh, a student studying in Ho Chi Minh City who has just returned from Phu Tho province, has just set foot in the train station and was immediately introduced to a part-time job, which coincided with his need to do extra work. Thanh stated that students need jobs to support their lives and, importantly, to gain more life experiences and work experiences.

Companies with recruitment bases at the train station usually have a considerable demand for workers, including service companies and manufacturing companies. Normally, they still recruit through websites, job fairs at schools, but after Tet, the supply is still not enough to meet the demand.

Ms. Dang Le Cam Nhung – Recruitment Supervisor, Takahiro Company: “Our demand is to recruit 300-400 workers, including both part-time and full-time. Every day when workers from provinces arrive, we will provide them with direct recruitment information. When they have recruitment needs, they can come directly to our table for advice”.

Every day, during business hours, there are 4-5 trains carrying passengers from provinces and cities across the country to Ho Chi Minh City. This is one of the relatively abundant sources of labor that businesses hope to recruit for positions to meet the production and business needs of businesses.

Just counting the recruitment demand through the Ho Chi Minh City Job Service Center, the number of registered businesses at this time is 124, with a demand to recruit more than 21,000 workers, mainly focusing on the garment, leather shoe, and electronics industries.

Ms. Nguyen Van Hanh Thuc – Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Job Service Center: “Workers can trust and we completely provide free recommendations. Maybe today workers cannot access jobs right at this counseling point, but there are clear addresses that show on Zalo, Facebook”.

“After the Lunar New Year 2024, about 52,000 new jobs are needed, mainly focused on commercial-service areas and the construction industry” – Ms. Luong Thi Toi – Deputy Director of the Department of Labor – Invalids and Social Affairs of Ho Chi Minh City, commented.

After Tet, workers have not fully returned to the city, while at many businesses, orders are pouring in until the end of the first quarter and even until the end of the second quarter. The city is coordinating to implement many solutions to search for and improve the quality of the labor force. According to surveys, the demand for training personnel accounts for nearly 87% of the total recruitment demand.

Difficult to recruit workers after Tet

In the northern region, after a calm year, in the first days of the new year, many companies in industrial parks also have a large demand for recruiting workers. This shows that the wave of job cuts in many industries has begun to subside. This is a good sign but there is also a reality that businesses find it difficult to recruit workers.

Start immediately, with education ranging from junior high school to university. Many companies only require workers to meet such requirements. But the number of candidates is counted on the fingers.

Mr. Ha Vi Thuc – Job-seeker, shared his desire for a new company with better salary policies and working environment than his old company. Mr. Hoang Van Minh – Job-seeker, said that due to good welfare policies, he wants to work in this company.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Chinh – Recruiter of HYOSUNG Company, shared recruitment criteria: “For male candidates, we will accept anyone who has an education background from junior high school and above, aged from 18 to 35. Candidates must be healthy people”.

Electronics, textile, and construction industries are the most recruiting industries at present. The main reason is that there are many returning orders and the need to expand production in 2024.

Offering a quite competitive salary, this cash disbursement machine manufacturing company now needs to recruit an additional 250 workers, both common workers and skilled workers, but in the past few days, very few people have submitted their resumes.

Mr. Lee Dong Young – External Director of HYOSUNG Company stated: “Compared to last year, the number of orders of the factory has increased by about 30%, so since the beginning of the year until now, the company has been recruiting about 250 new workers. But now is a difficult time because all companies are recruiting”.

The publicly announced salary is VND 9 million/month with bonuses and other benefits, but this lens manufacturing company admits that recruiting 3,000 workers according to the plan for 2024 is a challenge.

“We will continue to expand production and business activities and are expected to recruit about 3,000 workers this year. However, at this time, recruitment is facing many difficulties because skilled labor in the area is scarce and the number of candidates is also not many. We are applying many recruitment channels. Hopefully, we will achieve the recruitment target in the shortest time possible” – Mr. Zhou Jian Chao – Deputy General Director of IBe Vietnam Laser Technology Co., Ltd., shared.

In key economic areas, industrial parks, production is gradually recovering due to many returning orders. However, recruiting both common and skilled labor is still difficult for businesses.

Recruitment demand through training

It is forecasted that the recruitment demand of businesses in 2024 will be over 1 million workers, focusing on 3 main sectors: Services: 56%; Industry – Construction: 37%; Agriculture – Forestry – Fisheries: 7%.

In the service sector, industries with high recruitment demand are: trade, wholesale, retail; transport, warehousing, port services, maritime logistics, tourism… In the industrial-construction sector, the industries needing to recruit the most are the processing and manufacturing industries such as textiles, leather shoes, mechanics, electricity, electronics, and information technology…

After Tet, the number of new jobs has increased significantly. However, the requirements for the qualifications of workers that need to be recruited are higher. Large companies still demand to recruit workers who have been trained to serve development and production expansion.

Normally, these businesses recruit more common workers, but this year the factory needs technical workers to operate high-tech production lines. These technical workers will be new recruits, rather than replacing existing workers.

Mr. Lee Dong Young – External Director of HYOSUNG Company shared: “Among the newly recruited workers, the number of skilled workers accounts for over 20%. This is a difficult number to recruit and it is even more difficult to recruit workers who meet the requirements. And it is very labor-intensive for training, and after training, workers are prone to leave”.

Currently, provinces with many industrial parks such as Bac Ninh, Bac Giang prioritize high-tech businesses that do not require many workers to invest and produce. Therefore, the number of new hires is not too much but must meet the requirements of being trained.

“Companies also recruit selectively, and there are workers who must be trained and meet the requirements for improvement and enhancing the technological capabilities of manufacturers” – Mr. Nguyen Duc Cao – Deputy Director of the Bac Ninh Industrial Parks Management Board expressed his opinion.

Vietnam still stands in the top countries attracting investment in the world. Many companies from the US, Japan, South Korea… have the intention to expand production in Vietnam. However, many enterprises face difficulties as the quantity of skilled workers in Vietnam has not met the demand.

Mr. Chou I Wen – Deputy General Director of the Group, in charge of the Foxconn General Department in Vietnam, revealed: “In 2024, the group plans to recruit about 27,000 workers in Vietnam. Because it is a corporation with high-tech, the source of recruited labor must be skilled workers, including a team of engineers”.

With more than 1 million workers in need of recruiting, Ha Noi, Hai Phong, Bac Ninh, and the Southeastern provinces account for about 80%. Among them, the number of recruits with training needs is up to 20%, a 10% increase compared to previous years.

“I observe that there is a shift, that is, the demand for personnel and workforce-related values is higher. For example, technology transfer related to design is transferred to Vietnam because they realize that the capacity of Vietnamese workers can handle this part or just simply processing part”, Ms. Ngo Thi Ngoc Lan – Director of NavigosSearch Company commented.

Mr. Ngo Xuan Lieu – Director of the National Employment Services Center, under the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs, said: “Recruitment is mainly to meet the needs of production and business and to replace workers, increasing new job growth compared to the previous year, but not high”.

According to experts, the labor market will be lively in the early year as workers tend to change jobs more. However, it is not until mid-year or the end of 2024 that the labor market really improves. Therefore, workers need to consider before changing jobs and must actively train and develop themselves to adapt to the increasing requirements of employers.
