Ben Rung Bridge Nears Completion

After almost 2 years of development, the Ben Rung Bridge project, with a total investment of nearly 2,000 billion VND connecting Hai Phong and Quang Ninh, is completing its final stages before completion.

By the beginning of April 2024, the project had reached 96% of its construction volume. Currently, the main items of the project have been completed, and the contractor and project management board are actively implementing the remaining items this April.

According to a representative from the Hai Phong Transport Project Management Board speaking with Giao Thong newspaper, the weather is very favorable for the construction process to be carried out quickly, safely, and to ensure quality.

Currently, the workload of the Ben Rung Bridge construction project is about 4%, equivalent to over 70 billion VND. About 300 workers are working on the project during this final phase.

Earlier, on the morning of April 4, Vice Chairman of Hai Phong City People’s Committee Nguyen Duc Tho inspected the progress of the Ben Rung Bridge construction project and requested that the contractor focus on asphalting the bridge surface, handling the intersection, ancillary infrastructure works, and lighting systems; The Department of Transport to guide the contractor in implementing the sign system, painting road markings, and organizing traffic flow. The supervising consultant and contractor shall complete the project acceptance dossier; vigorously focus on completing the approach roads on both sides of the bridge for technical traffic opening as planned.

The Ben Rung Bridge construction investment project commenced on May 13, 2022, and the contract implementation period is 24 months. It will be open to technical traffic on the occasion of the 69th anniversary of Hai Phong Liberation Day on May 13, 2024.

Upon completion, the Ben Rung Bridge is expected to enhance transportation capacity, create an inter-regional traffic connection system, and meet the transportation needs between industrial parks, industrial clusters, and people in Thuy Nguyen District, Quang Yen Town in particular, and the two localities of Hai Phong and Quang Ninh in general.

This is the third bridge connecting Quang Ninh Province with Hai Phong City, after Da Bac Bridge and Bach Dang Bridge. With a total investment of nearly 2,000 billion VND, the bridge is designed with a length of 1,865.3 m, a width of 21.5 m, 4 mechanized lanes, and 2 mixed lanes, along with synchronous auxiliary infrastructure such as safety zones, separation strips, lighting systems, and traffic safety equipment.

Along with implementing the remaining items of the project, the construction unit simultaneously carries out the moving of equipment, machinery, and clearing under the bridge area, returning a clean and safe surface, ensuring traffic safety in the waterway area above.

When the Ben Rung Bridge, worth nearly 2,000 billion VND, is completed, the Rung Ferry connecting Hai Phong with Quang Ninh will officially close after more than half a century of operation. Ben Rung Bridge is built at a location nearly 4km upstream of the Da Bac River from Rung Ferry.

Rung Ferry came into operation more than 50 years ago, connecting Thuy Nguyen District, Hai Phong City with Quang Yen Town, Quang Ninh Province, ending the situation of using rowing boats, creating favorable traffic conditions for people on both sides of the Da Bac River. However, in recent years, due to not being invested in renovation or upgrading, both the pier and the ferry have degraded.

“Having received the news that the Ben Rung Bridge is completed, Rung Ferry will be closed. Although I will have to close the tea shop to switch to another job, I am happy that the new bridge will create conditions for my hometown to develop”, Ms. Le Thi Tho (selling groceries and tea next to Rung Ferry) shared with Nguoi Dua Tin newspaper.

Given the fact that Rung Ferry has deteriorated and can no longer meet the transportation demands between industrial parks, industrial clusters, as well as the travel needs of people between Hai Phong and Quang Ninh, the investment policy for the Ben Rung Bridge project was approved on December 22, 2020. The Hai Phong Transport Construction Investment Project Management Board was assigned as the representative of the investor.
