“The Flower Horn Festival – Ethnic Festival” and the Spring Festival “Opening the Sky Gate of Fansipan” officially opened on the 3rd day of Lunar New Year (February 12th) at Sun World Fansipan Legend, Sa Pa, Lao Cai.

The Flower Horn Festival brings many exciting and new activities for tourists. In addition to the lively spring atmosphere of the Northwest region, visitors will enjoy unique Hmong flute performances and participate in traditional folk games in Ban May such as blindfolding to catch goats, blindfolding to catch ducks, sack races, and climbing greased poles.
The highlight of this year’s Flower Horn Festival is the Ethnic Festival, featuring 5 different unique festivals taking place from February 13th to March 9th, representing the ethnic minorities of Hmong, Tay, Red Dzao, Xa Pho, and Giay.
This will be an opportunity for tourists to experience many traditional festivals recreated vividly in Ban May such as Gau Tao Festival of the Hmong ethnic group (from February 13th to 14th); Long Tong Festival of the Tày ethnic group (from February 17th to 18th); Put Tong Festival of the Red Dzao ethnic group (from February 24th to 25th); Quet Lang Festival of the Xa Pho ethnic group (from March 2nd to 3rd); Roong Pooc Festival of the Giay ethnic group (from March 9th to 10th).

During this period, many unique traditional customs of ethnic minorities will be recreated, such as erecting the Neur Tree, reenacting the marriage proposal of the Hmong people; the Chau Then ritual of the Tày people; the worship ceremonies, dancing, love duets, and folk songs of the Xa Pho people; the dance and egg dyeing customs of the Giay people…
On the 3rd day of the Lunar New Year, the Fansipan Sky Gate Spring Festival 2024 will take place with many meaningful activities. Thousands of Buddhists and visitors from all over will gather at the sacred cultural complex of Sun World Fansipan Legend to participate in the opening ceremony of the sky gate, offer flowers, bathe the Buddha, write New Year’s prayers, recite Buddhist scriptures to pray for national prosperity, and many other meaningful programs. Especially, on the evening of the 5th day of the Lunar New Year, Buddhists and visitors will participate in the ceremony to offer sacred lights at Bao An Zen Monastery – Fansipan Cable Car Station.

Sa Pa attracts a large number of tourists
Even before the Lunar New Year, the booking rate from the 3rd to the 5th day reached 97%, mainly concentrated in the high-end area in the city center. The average occupancy rate of community tourist spots is 45%, with the highest concentration in Ta Van and Mường Hoa. Restaurants, cafes, and tourist attractions will resume operations from the 2nd day of the Lunar New Year to ensure the best service conditions for tourists.
It is expected that during the Lunar New Year, Sa Pa will receive over 100,000 visitors, an increase of more than 11,000 compared to the same period last year. The peak days will be the 3rd and 4th day of the Lunar New Year, attracting about 65,000 visitors.
During this period, Sa Pa town will organize many cultural activities and special tourism programs to serve tourists and prepare the best accommodation conditions to welcome visitors to the National Tourist Resort.
