Who are the 5 persons summoned for questioning in the Vạn Thịnh Phát case?

According to Người Lao Động newspaper, from March 5th, the People’s Court of Ho Chi Minh City held a trial for the defendants involved in the Vạn Thịnh Phát company case. The trial is expected to last until April 29th.

The Supreme People’s Procuracy indicted defendant Trương Mỹ Lan and 85 other defendants for crimes including embezzlement, violation of banking regulations, bribery, abuse of power while performing official duties, and serious negligence.

Đinh Văn Thành is being wanted

Among the defendants facing charges, five are currently wanted. The indictment determined that these defendants actively assisted Trương Mỹ Lan in withdrawing money from SCB Bank, causing significant damage.

The five defendants are:

1. Nguyễn Lâm Anh Vũ (born in 1962, from Ho Chi Minh City; former deputy director of SCB Bank Ben Thanh Branch): From August 13th, 2014 to August 31st, 2015, Nguyễn Lâm Anh Vũ signed 112 loan agreements, causing 3.762 trillion dong in damages to SCB Bank.

2. Trầm Thích Tồn (born in 1961, from Tra Vinh; member of the Board of Directors of SCB Bank): From July 25th, 2012 to May 24th, 2013, Trầm Thích Tồn signed 80 loan agreements, causing 7.176 trillion dong in damages to SCB Bank.

3. Chiêm Minh Dũng (born in 1973, from Can Tho; former deputy general director of SCB Bank): From November 20th, 2012 to April 4th, 2019, Chiêm Minh Dũng signed 362 loan agreements, causing 140.713 trillion dong in damages to SCB Bank.

4. Nguyễn Thị Thu Sương (born in 1974, from Ho Chi Minh City; former chairman of the Board of Directors of SCB Bank): From July 25th, 2012 to July 30th, 2013, Nguyễn Thị Thu Sương signed 79 loan agreements, causing 6.989 trillion dong in damages to SCB Bank.

5. Đinh Văn Thành (born in 1971, from Ho Chi Minh City; former chairman of the Board of Directors of SCB Bank): From June 28th, 2012 to October 19th, 2017, Đinh Văn Thành signed 174 loan agreements, causing 42.770 trillion dong in damages to SCB Bank.

From February 9th, 2018 to December 6th, 2020, Đinh Văn Thành signed 305 loan agreements, actively assisting Trương Mỹ Lan in embezzling 189.103 trillion dong and causing damages of 99.677 trillion dong.

The People’s Court of Ho Chi Minh City called on the defendants to surrender in order to enjoy the leniency policy of the Party and the state, cooperate with the relevant authorities in the trial to ensure the right to defense.

In the event that the defendants do not appear or surrender, they will be considered as waiving their right to defense and will be tried in absentia.
