The number of tourists coming to Phu Quoc Island during the Lunar New Year holiday 2024 (from February 8th to 13th) reached over 160,000 visitors. Among them, more than 56,000 tourists stayed overnight. Notably, the number of international visitors to Phu Quoc during the Tet holiday increased by nearly 517% compared to the same period in 2023, with over 43,200 arrivals.

During the Tet days, Phu Quoc Airport had about 454 takeoff and landing flights, serving a total of 84,500 passengers. High-speed boats and ferries to and from the island had a total of 104 trips, serving around 32,200 passengers.

The number of international visitors to Phu Quoc increased significantly.

On February 2nd (the 23rd day of Tet), Phu Quoc welcomed the Costa Serena cruise ship with nearly 1,100 passengers from Thailand, the United States, China, and Taiwan.

On February 9th (the 30th day of Tet), the island received the Aida Bella cruise ship with 1,979 European tourists (mostly German nationals).

With the surge in tourists during Tet, many 4-star or higher hotels in Phu Quoc achieved an occupancy rate of over 90%, with the majority of guests being international visitors.

On February 22nd, in an interview with PV Tiền Phong, Mr. Nguyen Vu Khac Huy – Vice Chairman of the Tourism Association of Kien Giang Province – said that although domestic tourists to Kien Giang increased during this Tet holiday, it was not significant. This is partly due to the high domestic flight ticket prices, leading people to choose destinations that can be reached by car or traveling abroad instead.

Regarding the sharp increase in international visitors to Phu Quoc during Tet, Mr. Huy emphasized that besides the effectiveness of promotion activities and tourism cooperation within and outside the country, many tourism projects have been put into operation, contributing to improving service quality.

The leaders of Phu Quoc City stated that connecting international routes to Phu Quoc is also one of the factors attracting tourists to the island at the beginning of the year. Phu Quoc is actively promoting connections and attracting visitors from markets such as Thailand, Malaysia, Russia, China, Kazakhstan, the Czech Republic, Poland, the United States, Mongolia, and more. In addition, Vietjet opened the Phu Quoc – Taiwan (China) route with a frequency of 7 round-trip flights per day, creating more opportunities to attract visitors to the local tourism industry.

Kien Giang welcomed about 2 million visitors in the first 2 months of 2024.

According to the Department of Tourism of Kien Giang Province, the local area received nearly 2 million visitors in the first two months of this year, an increase of over 79% compared to the same period last year, equal to 21% of the annual plan. The total revenue from tourism is estimated at 5,232 billion VND.

Among them, international tourists to Kien Giang reached over 215,000 arrivals, an increase of nearly 105% compared to the same period last year.

In the coming time, the Department of Tourism of Kien Giang will develop and implement a plan to build Phu Quoc into a high-quality service center, an ecological and high-quality marine and island tourism destination, and promote the development of tourist destinations, especially rural areas. The department will also cooperate with the tourism sector of 13 provinces/cities in the Mekong Delta region and Ho Chi Minh City, as well as inspect the service quality of accommodation facilities within the locality.

With these solutions, the Kien Giang tourism industry expects to maintain its position as a leading tourist destination in the Mekong Delta region and the whole country.
