According to information from the Dong Nai Provincial Electronic Information Portal, the Office of the Prime Minister recently issued a conclusion by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh during a working visit to inspect the progress of key projects and works.

In particular, regarding the Long Thanh Airport Phase 1 project, the Prime Minister emphasized to all related units (contractors, consultants, supervisors, etc.) and to each individual, engineer, worker, and laborer that 2024 is a year for acceleration, and 2025 is a year for breakthrough, aiming to focus on completion and handover for operation in the first 6 months of 2026. The conclusion announcement explicitly states that “The first 6 months of 2026 must focus on completion and handover for operation.”

Key contracts are meeting the progress

Within the overall Long Thanh Airport Phase 1 construction investment project, component project 3 – construction of essential facilities within the airport – is the most important component project. In this component project, the passenger terminal facility of Long Thanh Airport Phase 1 is the largest and most significant construction project in terms of investment capital. It also plays a role as the progress runway for the entire project.

According to the Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV), the construction and installation contract package for the passenger terminal facility of Long Thanh Airport Phase 1 was officially launched at the end of August 2023.

Immediately after the groundbreaking ceremony, the consortium of construction contractors promptly mobilized over 2,000 laborers and more than 800 pieces of equipment to focus on the construction of project items.

During the Lunar New Year of Giap Thin, the consortium of contractors still mobilized nearly 400 personnel to stay on site and organized construction work throughout the holiday. “To date, the entire underground section has been completed, bringing the project to an elevation of 0.00,” said a representative of ACV.

According to ACV, regarding the progress of the next items of the passenger terminal facility, the schedule for the completion of reinforced concrete structure is expected by the end of 2024, with the completion of the terminal’s roof structure planned for August and September 2024, followed by the installation of the steel roof structure.

In parallel with the progress of the rough part, all procurement and equipment ordering activities have also been carried out, with contracts signed with suppliers and manufacturers for production and processing of components to meet the set schedule.

According to ACV, the construction and installation contract package for the passenger terminal facility is striving to complete the entire construction work before December 2025. The erection of vertical elements is planned to be completed before March 2026, parallel to the completion, installation, and testing of operating equipment starting from early 2026.

Regarding contract package 4.6 – construction, installation of the airfield runway, taxiway, apron (cargo terminal, hangar, isolation), and other works, ACV said that it is expected to complete the construction of the runway, taxiway, and apron before June 2025.
