When unboxing a Samsung flagship phone — or even a mid-range device — you’ll often find that the Korean manufacturer doesn’t include a charger in the box.
Of course, Samsung and its retail partners will be happy to sell you an official power adapter.
The company’s latest is a 50W dual USB-C port charger that can output 50W when using a single USB-C port or 25W when using both.
These specs may not seem particularly impressive — especially in the Android world — but they’re enough for Samsung’s phones. That’s because none of its devices support wired charging speeds above 45W, and most are limited to 25W.
So the Samsung EP-T5020 50W Super Fast Charging Adapter was designed specifically for Samsung phones, and there’s nothing wrong with that.
The catch is that the charger costs €69.90 (around $75).
A quick search on Amazon reveals that there are plenty of third-party chargers with similar capabilities but flashier designs and, more importantly, lower prices.
Perhaps the only reason to buy the Samsung EP-T5020 50W Super Fast Charging Adapter is for the branding — it is a Samsung product, after all.
If you’re wondering whether buying a third-party charger will cause compatibility issues with your Samsung phone (i.e. does the Samsung EP-T5020 50W Super Fast Charging Adapter work better than them), the answer is no.
The Samsung EP-T5020 50W Super Fast Charging Adapter uses the PD/PPS charging standard just like any other good quality fast charger on the market.
